Robinson's new JLA roster

Interesting line up, it seems the main theme is that the younger heroes are getting their shot in the BIG super hero team. A lot of Titans seem to have been promoted.

Im happy to see Ollie there and the Guardian is a cool pick, he has been the best part about Robinson's Superman run imo. But as interesting as the line up is I probabley wont be buying this book as I'm not loving the creative team at the moment.

What are you guys thinking about the roster? Happy, sad, surprised?

Justice League – Cry for Justice #3

On the strength of this appalling issue this title is now being dropped. This had the single worse dialogue of any comic I have ever read. I cannot believe a well respected writer is producing this crap. (But maybe I should have seen this coming as the only work of Robinsons I think I have ever enjoyed is the Jimmy Olsen: Superman’s pal one shots, which says a lot. I blame myself for buying his work for this long.) Some of the most stupid and cheesiest lines are used; “Are you a hero or a villain?” & “I’m good, not evil” and still more of; “I want JUSTICE!” (Jesus! We get the point!) but yet all the characters do is continuously stand around talking shit. I’ve decided while the art looks pretty, it is not right for the interior of a comic book, everything is far too static and boring. I will not be picking up any more issues of this or Superman (another title by Robinson that has been on the verge of being dropped by me for some time now) nor will I bother with JLA when he takes over on the main series. This comic was just complete crap. I can’t believe I paid $3.99 for this. Avoid if you value your intelligence.

Sweet Tooth #1 - Review

This was an absolute pleasure to read. This is a real heart warming tale of a boy who is born different, and is kept away from the rest of the world by his father for fear that the boy may be hunted by others and taken away (It seems our lead character is not the only animal/human hybrid and it appears they are very valuable to hunters). In this issue we learn that the boy has already lost his mother to illness, and his father soon goes the same way. The boy’s curiosity for the out side world takes him away from the safety of his home where he is met by immediate danger, and then saved by a strange man who our lead has been having recurring nightmares about.

This was a really good read and at a cost of only $1 I definitely would tell everyone to pick this up. If you don’t like it, what the hell it’s only cost a dollar. I can’t praise Vertigo enough for their pricing on no. 1 issues when companies like Marvel stick a $3.99 price tag on all their no. 1’s.
I’m not going to buy each issue as I believe Vertigo titles read better in trade paper back, but on the strength of this issue I can’t wait to have the collection on my shelf.

Captain America Reborn #2

Better issue than the first. Steve is trapped in re-living his past, jumping from moment to moment (kind of like Quantum Leap actually), but without being able to act for fear of changing the future. In the present, Bucky Cap & Black Widow are captured by the Dark Avengers and Osborn. Norman Osborn is a key player in this series, as it seems he wants Captain America back as much as our heroes (if only for his own twisted purposes) but has more resources to pull it off. I think this title will only continue to improve, just that I’m not that crazy about Hitch’s art work.

Superman World of New Krypton #6

Still don’t like this series. I sort of had to pick this up to get the first part of Codename Patriot that runs through the other Superman books that I pick up. The writing was fine but I’m not a fan of the art at all, the inks and coloring are far too strong, and the pencils on smaller panels look really rushed. The story is okay, but this was mostly a set up issue and the action should be picking up in the next chapters. Nice last page though, (SPOLIERS!) “This is a job for…Superman!” Very cool.

More talking of Justice! (We get he point)! This has pretty art, but not much of the story line has really grabbed me yet. But I am liking the dialogue between characters and I know this is controversial on the net but I actually really liked the joke about Hal’s threesome (come on, he’s an air pilot/ superhero cop with a magic ring, of course he’s gonna get laid!) Nice to see some Atom action too. I’ll keep buying this.

The issue opens with a conversation between Hal & Ollie in Gotham that is really funny and insightful and I think writer James Robinson and artist Mauro Cascioli do a great job in this opening scene, which I’ve posted below (click image to enlarge).

G. Johns to write a second JLA series?

While over at Newsarama I came across a new article they call ‘Column…for JUSTICE!’ By Troy Brownfield

The article was mainly a nice little history lesson of the new JLA characters for fans. Members being Mon-El, Donna Troy, Batman (Dick Grayson), Hal Jordan, Congorilla and maybe Vixen.

The part that interested me however was this;

“There will (probably) be two ongoing Justice League books. James Robinson will be writing, and Mark Bagley will be drawing, although it’s not been totally spelled out as to how the books will be divided. The going rumor/assumption is that Geoff Johns and a superstar artist will be handling the other book, but that awaits confirmation.”

This is the first I have heard about a second ongoing JLA book, I knew Johns was working on something being kept under wraps for the last few months but a new Flash ongoing written by Johns was announced at SDCC and I thought that was it. He is already writing Green Lantern, Blackest Night (+various tie-ins), Superman Secret Origins, Flash Rebirth and now the Flash ongoing. Is it possible that he has time to be writing a second Justice League book? I got to say I think this is unlikely, however as he is my favorite DC writer I would love for nothing more than for him to come aboard and sort out the Justice League series. Whether I would buy the Robinson book also if I had a Geoff Johns penned Justice league I’m not so sure about. What do you guys think? Had you heard this rumor about a second JLA series penned by Johns and is there any truth to it?

DC Comics Preview: Justice League: Cry For Justice #1 @ Newsarama

Firstly…… WOW! The art by Mauro Cascioli is beautiful. I loved his work on last years ‘Trials of Shazam’ and this work looks just as fantastic. I’m really pumped for this now, those of you have been down on the regular Justice League of America title hold out for this. I think James Robinson & Mr Cascioli are gonna make this new Justice League mini the MUST HAVE Justice League book. Just from the preview I’m loving the way Robinson is writing Hal Jordan as a total bad-ass. I think this is due out 1st July. Check it out people and let me know your thoughts.
